With everything that’s been happening on a global scale, we wish to continue spreading positivity to all our communities around the world as they navigate through this time. It’s more important than ever for all of us to stay positive, to practice gratitude, and to do our part in keeping our communities safe.

Despite what’s currently going on, there are many different situations in life where we may find ourselves stuck in the house for an extended period of time. When you’ve got young children or teens at home, finding ways to keep them entertained can be frustrating. However, with everyone at home, it’s a beautiful opportunity to spend quality time with one another while sharing memorable moments that can be cherished for a lifetime.

It’s a good idea to keep a list of fun activities on hand, because we definitely don’t want the kids (and adults) to be glued to their devices for hours! Here’s a list of activities and other fun things to do at home as a family.

1. Try out a new recipe

With everyone at home, there’s truly no better time to get everyone to help you out with preparing dinner. Cooking together is a fun activity that can teach everyone how to communicate more effectively with one another by learning how to listen and to work together on a task.

As parents, it’s important to provide our children with the right tools to navigate through life successfully – the same concept applies here. Teaching them to cook at a younger age gets them into the habit of preparing healthier meals at home rather than relying on takeout or fast food.

Cooking together gets the kids to experience firsthand the amount of work that actually goes into preparing a meal. This will help them gain a better perspective of household responsibilities and to become more appreciative of all the hard work you put in on a regular basis. Aside from cooking, baking is one of the best things to do with kids at home! Getting them to decorate their sweet treats is a great way to kill some more time.

2. Arts and crafts

A fun-filled crafting session also works great as an educational activity. Getting the kids to sit down around the table and to focus on an art project works wonders for cultivating an educational setting, which is especially important when they go a couple days without school. Not to mention, regular arts and crafts sessions are a fantastic opportunity to nurture their creative side.

3. Card games

Remember when we didn’t have all these cool gadgets to keep us entertained and a deck of cards was enough to keep us busy for hours? Take things back to a much simpler time by bringing out the board games or a deck of cards to have some good old fashioned fun with the entire family.

As the kids grow older and their social circles get larger, it can be hard for parents to find an opportunity to share meaningful one-on-one conversations with them. Totem, the feel good game, fuses the power of positive communication with the fun of conventional card games to strengthen family bonds. With this game, friends and family members gather around the game table to share an open and honest conversation about what they love about each other the most.

Totem teaches kids and adults how to communicate their feelings more effectively, the value in sharing meaningful conversations, and it helps them understand why it’s important to treat others with more kindness and compassion. By coming together to reflect on one another’s best qualities and traits, it gives us the opportunity to build trust while forming deeper connections with other members of the household.

4. Karaoke session

Jamming out to some sweet tunes is a great way to get kids and teens to forget all about being stuck at home. Aside from a lively karaoke session, there are many other ways that you can use music to lighten up the mood!

For instance, you can set up a family playlist by getting everyone to add a couple of their favorite songs and then just play it in the background during a card game. This is a fantastic way to get siblings to share their favorite songs with one another while bonding over their personal interests.

Other creative family things to do at home with music? If you’ve got younger kids at home, another cool idea is to get everyone to form a band. This also doubles as a unique crafting session where the kids can construct their own instruments out of a couple household items. After your resourceful crafting session, get the kids to perform a song with their siblings.
